Council Tax Benefit is Changing From April 2013

Council Tax Benefit is changing

The Government has stated that the existing welfare system is unsustainable and that changes are needed to ensure its affordability in the future. A new benefit called Universal Credit will be introduced to replace the majority of existing benefits available to those of working age.
From April 2013, the Government will end the current scheme of Council Tax Benefits and give local Councils the ability to create their own local support.
The Government will be giving councils less money to pay for their local schemes than they had for Council Tax Benefit. As a result Northampton Borough Council will have in the region of 10% less to spend on help towards Council Tax in 2013/14.
